Week 10

The last swim club before Christmas saw the JC 1000, 100 and 50 m medleys, plus novelties for young and old.

SoTW was Leo Langman for 2 quals the previous week (400 FS and 100 BR). Plus we had 2 other special Swimmers of the Week – Peter Romero for bouncing back after being unwell in hospital, and Dave Durbin for effort after spending 18 years trying to swim under 3 mins for 400 FS.

Well done all round lads!

The bbq and monster raffle were a great success, and we had a record number of raucous redraws, after not having one all season.

Happy Xmas everyone, and see you back on the 18th Jan!

Week 9

Week 9 saw the results of the Relay Challenge announced… and it came down to the wire. Final placings were:

Equal First: The Shonks (Peter Romero, Frank Funibaldi, Harry Millar, James Millar, Res: John Rayment, David Romero) and C.O.C Bots (Amelia Barry, William Jenkins, Isabella Kelly, Edward Bates, Res: Susan McGrath-Champ)

Third was Shark Bait (Claudia Pickett, Caroline Butler-Bowdon, Willem Willemsen, Laura Willemsen, Res: Daphne Willemsen). Well done everyone!
The 50 m Handicap Championship was swum and won by Claudia Pickett with an amazing 32s lap, 5 seconds faster than her season PB! What a fantastic effort Claudia. Great to see young and old pitted against each other in the heats and final.

See you next week!

Week 8

Week 8 is here already .. only 2 weeks of swimming to go until the Christmas break. A modest turnout today but those who came gave it their all.

SoTW was shared again between Ashleigh Seymour and Elise Pappas, both of whom have qualified for 3 new events this year. Well done girls! (Elise was away).

The Bates boys bought their grandad along and he proceeded to beat them soundly in the 100m freestyle – well done Geoff! After that he backed up for the relay, so he’ll sleep well tonight.

The third week of the relay challenge was closely fought, and though the Shonks were beaten on the day, who knows what the overall points count will say?

See you next week, as Dave Durbin defends his handicap relay title!
