Penultimate week of the season…

We had a perfect morning today for the second last week of Swim Club for the season. It was an important day, with the following silverware being contested.

The Jon Facey Challenge Cup sees our fastest men and women take to the pool in the 100m freestyle. Then we had the President’s Challenge cup, that see our best boys and girls swim 50 m free.

Spirits were high, especially for the Mens 100 as they learnt that Aaron was running late. (He turned up in the nick of time and went on to win comfortably.)

Swimmer of the Week went to Isabella Kelly for her qualification in the 200m backstroke. Well done Isabella! And Eli Langman and Ruby Norman came back for their photo op for last week’s awards.

The day ended with the club AGM, at which elections were held for all committee posts. More on that next time.

See you next week – remember to bring your trainers!

Last week of Championships

It was a cool and rainy morning at swim club last week – must nearly be time to hang up those goggles for another year!

Just two events in the Championships this week, including everyone’s favourite, 100m butterfly.

Eli Langman and Ruby Norman shared the Swimmer of the Week for their qualification in the 30 m breaststroke. Well done kids! You can pick up your certificate from Ben next week.

After the final Swim and Survive session, we had our Resuscitation Course where we all brushed up on our skills (or learnt them for the first time). Thanks for organising this important course David.

See you next week…

Battle of the Bay

AASC took a record number of participants to the annual Battle of the Bay last Saturday, this year held at Drummoyne Pool. A great day was had by all and we came away with multiple age-group placings.

Leo Langman came 1st in his age group, Sam Barry placed 2nd  in his and Eli Langman came 3rd in his. Well done boys!

Sarah Judge came 3rd in the Ladies division, Aaron Langman came 1st in his division and Willem Willemsen came 3rd in his division.

That’s 3 from 3 for the Langman family! Well done to all of these winners and placegetters – what a great achievement for our club. Congratulations!

Our 10 x 50 relay team faced up against none other than Australian Olympic swimmer James Magnusson, in a very exciting race to end the evening. Here are the magnificent 10 before the race…

and James with some of our young swimmers…

James was pitted against David C-W in the first leg and I think David may have just pipped him…

It was a great finish to the day. Thanks to all who raced and those who came to cheer them on.

It’s all happening…

As we get to the pointy end of the season, there’s so much going on that it’s hard to keep up!

Heidi Jessup won Swimmer of the Week in Week 15 for smashing the 50m butterfly qualifying time with 33s flat. Poppy Rimondi got the award in Week 16 for her qualifying time in the 50 m backstroke. Well done girls and sorry I didn’t get a pic.

Week 17 saw Isabel Steele get the award for qualifying for 50 m butterfly.

It’s been a busy few weeks as the club championships have progressed. The stakes are high and Chris has been working overtime trying to corral everyone into their races.

We have also squeezed in club swims and some exciting relays too.

The camping trip to Coledale took place last weekend and by all accounts it was a great weekend and the kids loved taking to the surf with the Coledale nippers.

Swim and Survive continues and our club members, young and old, are helping to teach kids important water safety techniques. Thanks to all our vollies for giving up that extra hour on Saturday mornings.

See you next week!
