Week 7

A chilly grey start to Week 7 saw numbers a bit down, certainly in the first half hour. A late influx though meant that the relay teams were mostly intact, and the Shonks were victorious again. Well done (and get well soon, Peter R!) Let’s look at that handicapping again next week pls.

Claire Barry won SoTW with a great 50 m backstroke qual last week, her 2nd for the year. Well done Claire!

Remember to tell your friends to come along and try swim club before Christmas. We have three more weeks to go until the break.

See you next week!

Week 6

Week 6 dawned cloudy and dull but it was anything but dull in the pool. The first week of the Relay Challenge was on and there was much tactical non-swimming to conserve energy for the last race. The two winning teams were the Shonks and the unnamed team of Willem, Laura, Caroline and Claudia, in two blistering finishes. Well done!

We had a tie for SoTW this week. With lots of qualifications last week we had to do a countback,  and with 3 qualifications each so far this season it went to Evie Millar and Evelyn Mawer. Congratulations girls!

See you next week!

Week 5

A cloudy but bright morning for swim club. The mystery stroke was butterfly which is always fun… we had lots of different interpretations on show.

A few people bravely attempted 200m IMs which was also pretty impressive.

We had 5 qualifications from last week and the swimmer of the week was William Jenkins. Well done William!

The sheer quality of the raffle prizes this week meant that choosing was a tough decision…

…and there was much scrutiny of the 50m times ahead of the relay challenge next week.

See you next week!

Week 4

Blue skies greeted us again and the chill in the air made us very grateful for the balmy water temperature. In fact, the water was the best place to hang out during club announcements…

Ben Bates was this week’s SoTW as he qualified for the 200m free last week plus notched up the most swims which gave him the edge. Well done Ben. No pic as he had already left to go and play cricket. Now that’s dedication.

Amelia Barry proved a natural announcing the race results in place of her dad.

This week our Club Captains and Vice Captains for the season were announced. Congratulations to Evelyn Mawer and Alfie Jellett who were voted Club Captains, and Claudia Indge and Harry Millar who were voted Vice Captains. What a great team of young people to lead us through the season.

Next week the Relay Challenge begins, so get your team together and start working on your team name. Let the mind games begin!

See you next week.

Week 3

We were blessed with great weather again last week and the conditions were perfect for swimming.

Plenty of qualifications from last week and Olivia Pappas got SoTW for her back-to-back qualifications over two weeks. Well done Olivia!

We finished up with the Welcome Breakfast – a great spread that was quickly devoured by our hungry swimmers. Thanks to everyone who baked/prepped/purchased something, and to David for organising it all and for his supreme vacuuming skills.

See you next week!
