Swimming Championships Drawing to a Close

It has been a very exciting few weeks at Ashfield Swimming Club. Swimming championship are drawing to close and we've had some fantastic personal bests on display. So well done everyone who has participated.

Ashfield put up a great team of about 20 swimmers at this year's Battle on the Bay swimming carnival held at Leichhardt swimming pool on the 28th February 2015. We had great performances by everyone including age group point score place winners: Nicholas Macher (1st), Ryan O'Grady (equal 1st) and Daphne Willemsen (3rd). Our mixed 9-10 year old 4x50 m relay came 3rd place - congratulations Annalise, Lachlan, Ryan and Oliver. Well done! Our 10 x 50m relay team put up a great motley crew of swimmers - we placed fourth which was a great effort and exciting race to watch and participate in. Thanks to Angela for organising the team and for timing at the event (and also Astrid). Overall, Ashfield placed second in the entire carnival (with the second highest average number of points) and this news was received by a roar of applause and surprise. It was a terrific afternoon of community swimming with a healthy competitive spirit shared across the pools of the Bay!

Swimmer of the Week has been given to Gai Ferrington for her efforts in organising alternative transport to get her children to the Battle of the Bay carnival whilst sitting in hospital emergency with a dislocated shoulder! Now that is commitment. We hope you are on the mend Gai!

Swim and Survive is also drawing to a close which culminates in the CPR session. Thanks to Erin for organising the program and also to all the volunteer instructors, your participation it is testament to the success of the program.

There only a few more weeks to go until the end of the 2014-2015 swim club season.

Enjoy the rest of the season

Cheers Rachael
